The RRCA is excited to announce audition dates for The River Raisin Youth Theatre’s Summer Musical Little Shop of Horrors, directed by Tracy Glover. Her team will include Music Director Josh Glover, Choreographer Alyssa Langmeyer and Stage Manager Craig Cousino. The show will be presented in special arrangement with Music Theatre International (MTI).
Little Shop of Horrors is the story of a down-and out skid row floral assistant, Seymour Krelborn, who becomes an overnight sensation when he discovers an exotic plant, “Audrey II” with a mysterious craving for fresh blood. Soon “Audrey II” grows into an ill-tempered, foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore who offers him fame and fortune in exchange for feeding its growing appetite for blood, finally revealing itself to be an alien creature poised for global domination.
Little Shop of Horrors is one of the longest running Off-Broadway productions of all time. This spoof of the 1950’s sci-fi movies has become a household name thanks to the highly successful film directed by Roger Corman and a score by the song-writing team of Howard Ashman and Alan Menken. “Charming, tuneful and hilarious with tongue firmly planted in cheek, Little Shop of Horrors never fails to entertain.” –Music Theatre International
Show dates for the musical are set for July 18th, 19th and 20th, 2014. Show times have yet to be determined. Auditions will take place on Friday, May 9th from 6:00 p.m-8:30 p.m. and Saturday May 10th from noon-3 p.m. If callbacks are needed, they will be held on Monday, May 19th from 5:30 p.m.-9:00 p.m. Auditions and call backs will be held on the RRCA stage. Age ranges for the show will include those going into the 7th grade through age 20. Those who are 20 at the time of the audition but 21 at the time of the performance can still audition.
Auditionees need to prepare a piece, about 16-32 bars in length, appropriate to the music style of Little Shop of Horrors, but preferably not from the show. There will be a pianist at the audition, so auditionees need to bring sheet music. No CD’s please. Anyone who auditions should also dress comfortably as there will be a dance component to the audition. Any cold reads will be done at callbacks. Anyone with additional questions or who cannot make the established auditions dates should class the RRCA at (734)-242-7722.
