Lien Chi Chang officially established the Chinese Golden Dragon Acrobats in 1967 with his family whose members included Danny Chang, his sister and other students. From 1967 to 1984, Lien Chi led the company to numerous performances in different nations. The Chinese Golden Dragon Acrobats dazzled audiences range from 8 years old kids to 80 years old seniors all across the globe. After more than 17 years of apprenticeship under his dad and several years of world tours, Danny Chang became the current president of the Golden Dragon Acrobats.
The 2014/15 tour will mark the 35th year of the Golden Dragon Acrobats’ touring career. In 2005, they made their Broadway debut at the New Victory Theatre to a sold out audience. Their 6-week run in New York City gained critical acclaim from the New York press, received standing ovations and helped them garner two New York Drama Desk Awards Danny Chang for Unique Theatrical Experience and Alexa Chang for Best Choreography.
Their newest show, Cirque Zíva, is a technically innovative show that features a large, athletic cast and spectacular scenic and lighting elements. With superb artistic merit, high production values, and a solid commitment to cultural exchange, Cirque Zíva demonstrates why the Golden Dragon Acrobats have been recognized as the preeminent Chinese acrobatic company touring the United States.
Hailing from China’s Hebei province, the company includes athletes, actors and artists who have all studied and trained in their craft since early childhood. Cirque Zíva honors the rich Chinese acrobatics tradition while offering a new way of experiencing this ancient art form. Filled with contemporary music, impressive acrobatics, theatrical enhancements, and Chinese traditional dance, Cirque Zíva promises to thrill the young and young at heart.
The Golden Dragon Acrobats will perform at the RRCA on Sunday, October 26 at 3:00 p.m. Tickets are $25 for adults, $22 for seniors and $15 for students and children.
