I believe it is in the best interest of this country for the people to take it back. I’m not talking about a violent revolution but a peaceful, meaningful and thoughtful revolution that will showcase the middle-class, common-sense approach to government. The solid grey middle of America can grasp a hold of the real issues and assist in governing us back to a positive role model in both movement and philosophy for the rest of the world.
We have moved beyond the bully on the block and we are a much weaker caricature of what we once were. The once proud eagle that symbolizes us is now balding with glasses, a pot belly and an appetite for apathy. I’m not advocating being the bully, but I am saying we must regain our pride in country and our dignity. Along with it we will diminish out apathy and take pride in what we stand for as a nation. The rest of the world sees us as split into two halves, divided on almost every subject, issue and concern. As Aesop wrote in “The Four Oxen and the Lion,” “united we stand, divided we fall.”
The liberal faction and the “progressive” movement would have us believe the path back to power is more government. They point the finger at the conservatives and call out cronyism yet they never stray from the democratic path or platform. They self-righteously hold their ideals above all others and treat anyone opposing these ideals as backwards or “conservative,” as if this is a bad thing. We have thrown all caution to the gale forces and found that we are but a feather in this swirling breeze. We have technology pushing against ecology and both push us towards a future with no direction, like a 3 year old on a tricycle, head down and peddling as fast as we can with no regard for what lies ahead.
The conservatives look to the future as if they left their bank account in a burning building. They know they must go back in but they are afraid of the consequences. They know they must leave behind many of the planks on the platform that has held them up for so long but they don’t realize they can put new ones down in front of them. As much as the rich control the job market and will go where they can get tax abatements and friendly deals to prosper their business, they must realize also that it is the middle and lower classes that support that bank account smoldering in the parlor.
Must we look to the future and propagate new ways to do it, of course. The liberals don’t like the rules so they propose to change them to fit their ideals. The overstated and idiotic Geoffrey Feiger offers that he doesn’t care for The Constitution as written and therefore should be changed. Am I mistaken in understanding that the Bill of Rights is a list of amendments to The Constitution? Don’t we already have a process for changing The Constitution known as The Amendments to the Constitution?
Feiger and his ilk are the tip of the spear when we look at what’s wrong with this country. We have written laws that lawyers use to defend criminals and put them back on the streets instead of upholding the spirit of the law. The legal community is sworn to uphold the local, state and federal laws and to serve justice. Is setting a known murderer or child molester back on the street serving justice when a lawyer has found one of these loopholes or an error in the way they were prosecuted? I believe this goes on more often than sending the wrong criminal to prison.
Most of our congressmen and women and senators are also lawyers. These are not the people I want representing me and my ideals in our legislative branches. They are there because legislation is written in legalese, a form of “job security” for those wishing to remain in these positions. I propose that our civil revolution start peacefully, here, in the voting booths of America. It’s time to clean house AND the senate, in all states and federal levels. I want a respected man or woman with common sense representing me. Someone who can look at both sides of an issue and work out a compromise that best fits the constituency.
We look at our politicians, we see them on the evening news and the Sunday morning shows and we don’t hear what must be done, plans to work out these issues and strategies for solving problems. We hear how bad the other guy is and why we shouldn’t listen to that other guy. This spills into the campaigns of these people trying to gain those seats in the next and upcoming election. I don’t remember it being like this when I was younger. It was considered unfair and rude to sling the mud as performed today. Discrediting the opponent has now become the norm and has reached monumental and artistic style. And it’s wrong. It is now time for civil revolution.
