From March 27th – March 29th the River Raisin Repertory Company will present Jesus Christ Superstar at the River Raisin Centre for the Arts. Propelled by a stirring score, driving and majestic turns, satirical and tender, Jesus Christ Superstar illuminates the transcendent power of the human spirit with a passion that goes straight to the heart.
A global phenomenon that has wowed audiences for over 40 years, Jesus Christ Superstar is a timeless work set against the backdrop of an extraordinary and universally-known series of events but seen, unusually, through the eyes of Judas Iscariot. It was the first musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice to be produced for the professional stage and first came to major theatres when it debuted on Broadway in October 1971 at the Mark Hellinger Theatre in New York.
This rock opera is as powerful and compelling today as it was the day it was written. From his entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday through his death at the hands of Pontius Pilate, this unique musical retells the last seven days in the life of Jesus of Nazareth. Christ’s final days are dramatized with emotional intensity, thought-provoking edge and explosive theatricality. One of the most famed musicals of all time, Jesus Christ Superstar has some of musical theatre’s most famous and captivating songs from I Don’t Know How To Love Him, Everything’s Alright, Gethsemane, and of course, Superstar.
The show is directed by Tracy Glover with musical direction by Josh Glover and choreography by Alyssa Langmeyer. Auditions for the show took place in late January.
The dates for the three performances of Jesus Christ Superstar are Friday, March 27th at 7:30 pm, Saturday, March 28th at 7:30 pm, and Sunday, March 29th at 3:00 pm. Tickets are $25 for adults, $22 for seniors, and $15 for students and children.
