Despite a complete lack of control, life is what you make it.
Most of what we experience is inside our heads. The hurt caused by an indiscretion, the anguish in choosing to move or the panic after losing a job—these emotions linger and form the foundations of our worlds. Our thoughts, therefore, color our perceptions.
So life really is what you make of it. You can only know another person as well as he or she lets you, and you can only predict the future insofar as you can establish patterns between events. But you can know yourself and create thoughts of peace and harmony rather than strife and discord. This is where you make your life your own.
