Join the Friends of the Museum Saturday, August 10, at the Monroe County Historical Museum at 5 pm to watch Teahouse of the August Moon. Written by local author Vern Sneider, this comedy-drama is a gentle satire on America’s drive to change the world after World War II.
One year after the war, Captain Fisby is sent to the village of Tobiki in Okinawa to teach the people democracy. The first step is to build a school — but the wily Okinawans know what they really want. They tell him about their culture and traditions — and persuade him to build something they want instead: a teahouse. Fisby has a hard time breaking this news to his superiors. Starring Glenn Ford and Marlon Brando, the film will be introduced by Dan Downing, Supervisory Ranger at the River Raisin National Battlefield Park.
This event is free and open to the public. For further information, please contact Chris Kull at the Monroe County Historical at 734-240-7787
