Celebrate Valentine’s Day at the River Raisin Centre for the Arts with Steve March-Tormé on Friday, February 14th at 7:30 pm. Steve March-Tormé – singer, songwriter and son of legend Mel Torme – will perform a special Valentine’s Day show for the RRCA audience, which will include a night of romantic music, unforgettable vocals and a tribute to the legendary Mel Tormé.
Steve’s extraordinary vocal talent stands on its own regardless of his famous last name. Backed by a sizzling trio or quartet, Steve’s brand of pop-jazz is served up with wit, charm, and a warmth that will leave your heart singing. He moves audiences with his stirring vocals and dazzles with his technical facility. Steve’s live show features some of the most enduring, well-crafted standards ever written, beautifully arranged to appeal to the most nostalgic listener as well as to thrill the most sophisticated.
Popular interest exists in hearing Steve sing the songs for which his dad was known, and he also captivates audiences with his contemporary yet timeless original tunes, described by critics as “combining a wry sense of humor and a natural feel for romance, with classic melodies.” Steve has wooed audiences in settings from intimate jazz clubs to Performing Arts Centers to festivals worldwide with his vocal agility and richly seductive voice. His engaging personality and comfortable showmanship make the evening a thoroughly enjoyable experience for his audiences, but the star of the evening is always his voice.
For this special Valentine’s Day show Steve will bring out some very special tunes, including “The Way You Look Tonight”, “Blue Skies”, “The Folks Who Live on the Hill”, “A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square” and “Lover Come Back to Me”, which make romance the centerpiece of the evening. Janine Marie Wilson Jetsetters Magazine said of one of Steve’s performances in Las Vegas, “I had forgotten how wonderful falling in love was until last Friday night, when I attended the Steve March-Torme performance.”
Mel Tormé fans will also get a glimpse into the life that he and Steve shared as father and son. In addition to singing jazz classics and his own music, Steve takes great pride in paying tribute to his father by weaving in his music and stories of their time together throughout the performance. Though Steve stands on his own as a talented vocalist and performer, Music Connection Magazine notes “Much like his father, [Steve] holds a crowd and excites emotions with jazz scats and profound lyrics. An exceptionally versatile artist, Tormé could become the Sinatra of his generation”.
