Molly Luempert-Coy, Regional Manager for DTE Energy, will serve as the United Way Campaign Chair for 2013. Mrs. Coy covers governmental and community relations for 43 communities in Southern Washtenaw, Lenawee, Monroe and Southern Wayne Counties. She has been with DTE Energy for 21 years and recently served on rotational assignment working with DTE Energy’s Lansing Office.
In addition, she served for 8 years as an adjunct faculty member in the Communications and Theatre Arts Department for Eastern Michigan University and Baker College of Jackson, Michigan.
“I am so pleased to chair the campaign this year; our focus is on energizing Monroe County Lives! I have had the opportunity to work with many of the United Way’s Core agencies and to see first- hand the great work that they do in our community. The United Way is an amazing organization that works tirelessly to help address area needs.”
Mrs. Coy is very active in the Monroe and surrounding communities – she currently serves on the Monroe County United Way board of directors, chairs the Frenchtown Resort Authority Board, is a past chairman of the board for the Monroe County Chamber of Commerce, graduate of the leadership Monroe program, is a tri-chair for the funding committee of the War of 1812 Bicentennial Steering Committee and was appointed by the Governor to the State War of 1812 Bicentennial Commission, is a board member for Monroe County Community College Foundation and serves on the Nuclear Technology Advisory Panel, the Community Foundation of Monroe County and is a founding member of the G.R.O. W. Monroe Organization, serves on the Southeast Michigan Community Alliance Board, and advisory board member of the International Wildlife Refuge Alliance, and the Vice Chairman of the Miss Washtenaw County Scholarship Program and serves on Eastern Michigan University’s Foundation Board and Undergraduate Symposium Advancement Committee. She is a member of the Monroe County Exchange Club; Monroe, Saline, Milan and Southern Wayne County Chambers.
Molly and her husband Todd reside in Saline with their two children Amanda (12) and Blake (9).
Craig Haugen, Superintendent of Jefferson Schools, will be serving with Mrs. Coy as campaign vice-chair. Mr. Haugen has served as Superintendent of Jefferson since October 2008. Prior to Jefferson Mr. Haugen served as Superintendent of Whiteford Agricultural Schools and he is a resident of Bedford Township.
“Craig’s diverse experience and knowledge of differing areas of Monroe County was one of our motives for asking him to help with the campaign,” said Mrs. Coy.
He has a bachelor’s degree from Bethel College, St. Paul, Minn. and a master’s degree from Eastern Michigan University, Ypsilanti. He also has taken courses at Michigan State University, Central Michigan University, Grand Valley State University and Siena Heights University.
Mr. Haugen’s many community and professional memberships include the Monroe County Great Start Initiative project, serving as Vice-President of the Monroe County Child Abuse and Neglect Council, Monroe County Human Service Collaborative Network, both the National and Michigan Association of School Administrators, and the Monroe County Superintendents Association.
He and his wife, Kathi, have three daughters and two grandchildren.
This year’s theme “Energizing Our Community,” along with the tag line “Give Where You Live” hopes to create awareness to local efforts to keep money raised through the campaign in the local community to benefit local people. The additional goal is to inform those who work outside Monroe County how important it is to ensure that their contributions return to the United Way of Monroe County. A campaign goal will be announced at the Annual Campaign Kickoff to be held on September 20th.
