Superintendent Scott J. Bentley announced today that River Raisin National Battlefield Park will be hosting Eric Hemenway for two presentations in May.
Mr. Hemenway will present “The Complexity of Alliance: Native Warriors in the War of 1812” on Wednesday May 28, 2014 at 7pm. The War of 1812 marked the last time in history that Great Lakes American Indian warriors would be free to express traditional preparation for battle and the defense of their homelands. Eric will describe how independent village warriors in the Great Lakes came together to fight, their different backgrounds, customs and prerogatives during the War of 1812.
On Thursday May 29, 2014 at 7pm, Eric will talk about “Heroic and Some Not So Heroic Deeds During Michigan’s War of 1812″. Mr. Hemenway will explore more in depth some of the warriors who fought in the War of 1812 in the Great Lakes Region, telling some rarely heard good… and not so good accounts of the War including the Battles of the River Raisin.
