Friends of Companion Animals is a 501c3 non-profit animal welfare organization with a re-sale shop in The Monroe Factory Shops on LaPlaisance Road in Monroe. They raise all monies through the re-sale store and community events.
This is a dedicated group of volunteers who believe a difference can be made for the companion animals of Monroe County by working together. They assist low-income pet owners to spay/neuter their pets. In many cases this may determine whether or not they can keep their pet or have to surrender it to a shelter. Seventy percent of cats and 35 percent of dogs never make it out of shelters alive because of space.
FCA also provides pet food for low-income pet owners, and they feed, trap, transport, and pay for the sterilization of free roaming cats in apartment complexes, trailer parks and other public places were free roamers continuously multiply. They currently trap two local areas and in August successfully moved their first colony from a public hotel in Frenchtown Township!
This group believes one of the solutions to the overpopulation problem in Monroe County is spay/neuter. They have a team of volunteers who trap/neuter/return, and sometimes re-home free roaming cats and kittens. They are actively looking for barns and country homes to re-home feral cats, so if you know of anyone who has mice or ground moles, please tell them FCA has cats.
Volunteers of FCA have been very busy since the opening of its re-sale shop in March of 2012. From March through December 2012 they fixed 441 cats and 45 dogs and saved and re-homed nearly 200 kittens and 149 cats.
To date in 2013, 312 cats and 27 dogs have been “fixed”, and 120 cats and kittens have been re-homed!
Needless to say, this organization does not lack people or animals in-need. But they are lacking funds, support and resources. They need your support to continue their mission. They specifically are seeking:
Monetary donations
Gas cards
Pet store gift cards
Cat litter
Cat food
Kitten food
Dog food
Puppy food
Humane live traps
Donations for the re-sale store
Volunteers
Fosters
100 percent of all donations go to the companion animals in Monroe County.
Thank you for your support! We can make a difference for the animals if we all work together!
