Did you know a single week contains 168 hours? That’s right – 24 hours a day times seven days. And all you need to do is find three hours per week to invest in yourself. You have the time whether or not you think so – the key is to utilize it to your advantage. In other words, workout and feel better.
Of course, simply knowing the number of hours available to you may not be convincing enough to put you on a new and healthful journey. While lack of time is the number one excuse most people pose for avoiding the gym, here are a few others you’ve probably heard or even told yourself:
- Too fat to bother: a lot of people think they weigh too much to even start an exercise regimen. The reality is that anyone can get up and move. Some may have to start may gradually than others, but the human body was created to move – regardless of weight. You’ll be surprised at how quickly the pounds fall off – and how much better you feel – once you start.
- I don’t need to exercise: at the opposite end of the spectrum are those who feel they are thin enough and have no need for exercise. But physical movement is about more than weight loss: it helps strengthen the heart and bones, relieves stress and improves muscle tone. These advantages are independent of the numbers on your bathroom scale.
- I don’t like working out: gyms offer large numbers of activities to members so everyone can find something they enjoy. Yoga, bicycling, walking, running, and a multitude of classes are just some examples of these activities. So the excuse that you don’t like exercise, or that it’s boring, can be easily swept under the rug in knowing you have much from which to choose.
- I don’t know how to exercise: this statement is highly understandable, especially because exercise machines can be tricky to operate. But gyms employ personal trainers, assistants and other personnel available to help you. They are more than willing to provide guidance – all you have to do is ask.
- I feel self-conscious in gyms: before you think gyms are full of onlookers who want to scrutinize your every move, consider each person is there for the same reason: to improve their own health. Having said this, we can safely tell you that nobody cares how much you sweat, how red your face gets, how quickly or slowly you move, or what you look like as you push your body to the limits. Just as you similarly won’t care about those around you.
Regardless of the excuse you give, the gym is the best place to get into shape. Find three hours – a measly three hours – out of each week and devote them to yourself. The results will amaze you.
