Those who seek asylum in this country are given a stipend to start life anew. They are not required to pay taxes but make demands on the citizenry as if this was their country like health care, voting rights and exemption from rules and laws. The Muslim community in Dearborn, MI even petitioned the local government to ring the town bells signaling prayer times as in Muslim countries. Should those seeking asylum, religious freedom or freedom from tyranny be paying for the privilege of living in the United States instead of becoming a fiscal burden on our government?
These illegals having children in the U.S. receive more and quicker compensation when their child is born in the U.S. than the American Soldier who has fought and bled and in some cases died for this country. It can take up to a year for a wounded soldier to receive governmental benefits. How does this make sense? Families subjected to the ultimate sacrifice for America cannot receive the very benefits their loved one fought for in a timely manner. Our veterans are struggling with physical, mental and emotional damage only to be shut down by the system they fought to defend. It is time we put these people on the front lines of health care, employment and reintegration into society. There is no greater citizen or sacrifice than when one puts their life on the line in the name of their country. Yet, we pay billions of dollars to celebrities and athletes who have done nothing other than “entertain” us with mediocre talent and ability.
We have those defending the rights of Miley Cyrus to behave in a disgusting and offensive manner, but we are ready to crucify Donald Sterling for speaking his mind. Bigots and racists are a living breathing facts and because they say something derogatory about another race, religion, creed or belief that does not reflect the opinion of the politically correct, they become pariahs and are driven from all they have worked for, built and owned during their lives and careers. If Donald Sterling claimed it was art when he said those things, would he be looked at differently?
We had always taught our children about “sticks and stones” and “words.” And now, thanks to Oprah Winfrey, someone has decided to qualify words as weapons of “masked” destruction. It’s time to put on our big boy and big girl pants and rise above the words. The Donald Sterling’s and Marge Schott’s of the world are the old guard, leaving this planet at their preordained rate of expiration. Let’s just hate the play and love the player, isn’t that what we are taught about forgiveness?
Why is it that celebs and athletes make these exorbitant amounts of money and those charged with protecting us, teaching us and saving us are subject to minimum salaries? The woman teaching your child English or math or Physics isn’t worth more money? A ball player is given a contract worth 250 million dollars over 10 years because he can hit and catch and throw a baseball. I’m sorry, $25 million per year? That’s roughly $45,000 per plate appearance! That is more money than many considered to be middle class make in a year! How does this equate with the balance unseen in our society today?
Movie stars can command as much as $20 million per movie. Both these figures equate into high ticket prices for the consumer, the consumer making less than a single at bat for the baseball player. Today’s consumer must pay in excess of $100 per person to take their family to a ball game, to watch today’s sub-par and mediocre athlete struggle on the field. Here’s a radical idea: if today’s athlete really wants to make that kind of money, it is only fair it become mandatory to take steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs and supplements. If I am required to pay #35 for a bleacher seat in Wrigley Field, I want to see the best product that can be put on the field. Better yet, let’s break the unions and restructure all pro-athletic contracts in incentive based agreements and only those that perform up to expectations can cash in on the bonuses. And as for actors, show me one that is worth paying $20M per movie. The real stars today are the computer graphics people. They are the ones making these blockbusters into what they are.
The two party political system is off-balance with the other 98% of our grey world. Black and white ends of the spectrum are no longer relevant and somewhere in the 50% grey area, we will find our strength again, be great again. To get our credit rating back. To garner the respect we deserve from all we assist and those that fear us. Only then will we see and live again in a balanced society, with strengths from all sides, races, creeds, colors and religions. Only then…
