Mercy Memorial Hospital System (MMHS) is pleased to announce the new MRI and two new low dose CT scanners are now in place at the hospital, located at 718 North Macomb, Monroe, MI. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) exams – non-invasive diagnostic imaging exams of soft tissue, bone and muscles – have become one of the fastest growing types of medical diagnostic tests in the United States. With Mercy Memorial Hospital System’s recent installation of a MAGNETOM® Aera 1.5T Open Bore MRI system from Siemens Healthcare patients can now experience faster, more comfortable exams.
The addition of this new MRI scanner to Mercy Memorial Hospital System’s radiology suite will expand access to diagnostic imaging that supports a complete range of clinical applications, including neurology, orthopedics, body imaging, angiography, cardiology, breast imaging, and oncology.
“We are thrilled to bring the most up to date Imaging technology to the Monroe community,” said Cindy Miller, Director Imaging Services said We provide the lowest dose of radiation possible with our 2 new CT scanners and we are able to accommodate most patients in our new MRI that in the past were not compatible. There is now no need to leave the Monroe Community and go elsewhere for their radiology testing needs.”
Benefits of the MAGNETOM Aera 1.5T Open Bore
The MAGNETOM Aera offers doctors an array of diagnostic possibilities and provides patients with a more comfortable experience. Like all MRIs, the MAGNETOM Aera uses magnets that are measured in Tesla (T) to acquire images. At 1.5T, the MAGNETOM Aera offers superb image quality that may be used for a wide range of medical needs – from orthopedic and sports-related injuries to breast cancer testing – and can help physicians make quicker, more accurate diagnoses.
The MAGNETOM Aera boasts a large 70 cm open bore – the tube-like structure of an MRI machine, where the patient lies during the imaging process – and can provide access for patients of up to 550 pounds. Additionally, the system’s ultra-short bore (145 cm) can help to alleviate concerns of claustrophobia since many exams can be performed with the patient’s head outside of the bore.
The system is equipped with two exclusive Siemens technologies: Tim™ 4G (fourth generation of Total imaging Matrix technology) and Dot (Day Optimizing Throughput). The combination of Tim and Dot improves the entire MRI workflow and delivers patient-centered care. The results are faster, more comfortable exams for patients.
In addition, MMHS purchased two new low dose radiation 64-slice CT scanners – the SOMATOM Definition AS and the SOMATOM Perspective models.
