River Raisin National Battlefield Park Superintendent, Scott J. Bentley, announced today the opportunity to win a kayak, bike, 1-year membership to the Monroe Family YMCA, two-way radios, pedometers, gift certificates for outdoor equipment and more by simply enjoying the outdoors in healthy ways this summer! All you have to do is get a free River Raisin Prescription (Rx) from your Mercy Memorial Hospital System health care provider or the Monroe County Health Department during your next visit or attend one of the free Mercy Memorial Hospital System Heart to Heart programs at River Raisin National Battlefield Park!
Heart to Heart programs are fun opportunities to interact with, learn from and take a walk with Mercy Memorial Hospital System staff and physicians on the River Raisin Heritage Trail. During your Heart to Heart program, health care providers will issue free River Raisin Prescriptions (Rx) to exercise outdoors. For every four weeks you fill your prescription you can enter to win a great prize in the River Raisin Health Chase!
The first Heart to Heart program will be held at River Raisin National Battlefield Park on Tuesday, June 10, 2014, at 10 a.m. Mercy Memorial Hospital System Emergency Department Physician, Dr. Rimanelli, will join visitors for an engaging conversation about developing healthy living habits like exercise, fitness training, nutrition and more then take a walk with visitors down the River Raisin Heritage Trail. While walking with Dr. Rimanelli you will have an opportunity to have “Heart to Heart” conversations with him and get to know your community medical professionals better!
The River Raisin Rx Heart to Heart program has been made possible in part through a grant from the National Park Foundation through the generous support of Coca-Cola, the Coca-Cola Foundation, DISNEY, the Scrooby Foundation, Mercy Memorial Hospital System, the Monroe Family YMCA, Jack’s Bikes, City of Monroe Parks and Recreation Department, the Monroe County Health Department, Cabela’s, American Manufacturing Operations, By-Design Graphic Art and Marketing, the National Park Service and River Raisin National Battlefield Park Foundation. Each participant many enter the drawing up to five times between May and September 26, 2014. Winners will be drawn during the 2nd Annual “Liberation of Michigan Festival” at River Raisin National Battlefield Park on Saturday, September 27, 2014! - Tuesday, June 24, 2014, at 7 p.m. – River Raisin Rx Heart to Heart with Mercy Memorial Hospital System Registered Dietician, Leah Tolliver.
- Tuesday, July 8, 2014, at 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. Mercy Memorial Hospital System Registered Dietician and Certified Diabetes Educator, Kristie Ashworth, will help children and their parents understand the risks of diabetes, childhood obesity and how to live a healthy life. Children of all ages will also get to have fun at game stations setup at the Battlefield.
- Tuesday, July 22, 2014, at 7 p.m. – River Raisin Rx Heart to Heart with Mercy Memorial Hospital System Emergency Department Physician, Dr. Zolnoor.
- Tuesday, August 5, 2014 at 10 a.m. – Mercy Memorial Hospital System Emergency Department Physician, Dr. Rimanelli, will share with children and their parents the importance of nutrition, exercise, fitness and healthy choices. Children of all ages will also get to have fun at game stations setup at the Battlefield.
- Tuesday, August 26, 2014, at 7 p.m. – River Raisin Rx Heart to Heart with Mercy Memorial Hospital System Emergency Department Physician, Dr. Zolnoor.
