Monroe-based Mercy Memorial Hospital System has officially become part of ProMedica. The new name for the hospital will be ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital.
Mercy Memorial and ProMedica signed a definitive agreement in July 2014 and since that time have worked to construct an agreement for the hospital to join ProMedica. The joinder agreement includes a Monroe-area board of trustees with redefined governance authority. The medical staff will maintain its governing structure and by-laws.
”ProMedica and Mercy Memorial share a commitment to providing an outstanding patient experience and improving access to superior, convenient healthcare services and community outreach programs,” said Kevin Webb, ProMedica chief acute care officer. “We look forward to strengthening that commitment to southeastern Michigan in Monroe and the surrounding communities.”
“This has been an exciting journey for us,” stated Annette S. Phillips, president, ProMedica Monroe Regional Hospital. “The integration steering committee continues to formalize business details and we remain focused on our patient care services. Board of Trustees, employees, physicians and medical staff are firm in their promise to continue providing safe, high quality patient care to the communities we serve.”
The integration process will take place over the next three years. During this time, various committees will focus on developing strategies to expand services in the Monroe community including in the areas of heart, cancer and inpatient care. Additional plans will include establishing an accredited stroke program and increasing the level of trauma and emergency services. All of these efforts will attract a broader offering of medical specialties to Monroe and surrounding communities.
